Rotary Agglomerators

Agglomeration Drums Designed and Fabricated for Your Process

Rotary drum agglomerators at Applied Chemical Technology (ACT) are manufactured by our team of engineers, designers, and craftsman with more than 300 years of combined experience in granulation technology. We also have on-site laboratory and pilot plant equipment and facilities to produce the data needed to design and size your rotary granulator for your specific process. ACT stands behind every agglomeration drum that we build because we know that they are built with the highest quality and safety standards in the industry.

We understand that your rotary granulator may require special internals. Based on our past granulation experience and expertise we can help you with the internals that will best meet your process demands. We also build granulation drums capable of more than just granulation. They may also perform additional functions such as drying, classifying, and coating. Additionally, we design and build complete rotary drum granulation systems for our clients looking for a system that includes air handling, screening and recycling, drying, drum cleaning, and more.

How Does A Rotary Drum Granulator Work?

A drum agglomerator (rotary granulator) uses a rotating cylinder to bind fine materials or powders together to form larger particles/granules. This is accomplished as the powder in the bed of the agglomeration drum is tumbled at the same time that other appropriate parameters like temperature and agitation are controlled.

Tumbling alone is generally not enough to produce granulation. Often, additives are needed to bind and strengthen the agglomerates. These additives may be solvents, binders, or reactants. All of these additives help the granule maintain its strength after drying. In addition to the use of additives, a rotary drum agglomerator often includes special flight internals, lifts, or plows. These provide the additional mixing, drying, and/or cooling needed to form the granule.
